What is GS1? Does VN Check meet GS1 standards?
GS1 or European Code Association is a neutral organization established in 1977 under Belgian law as an international non-profit organization. The organization operates a Belgium-based Secretariat that works closely with local code organizations and has some of the work done by a number of Code Committees. GS1's mission is to design and implement solutions and global standards to improve the efficiency and transparency of supply chains and demand chains globally and across related sectors. . Currently GS1 is represented in over 108 countries around the world and operates in more than 20 industries.
In Vietnam - GS1 Vietnam is under the management of the National Barcode Center (NBC) under the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ), established in 1995, formerly known as the Code Office numbers and barcodes belonging to the Vietnam Institute of Standards and Quality. After more than 20 years of operation, continuously innovating and developing the Code and Barcode Center is the only Center in Vietnam that issues and manages barcodes and also provides a the first international Traceability system standard in Vietnam. According to Decision No. 100/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister assigned the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality to lead the Project and the National Center for Codes and Barcodes was assigned to be in charge of building and managing the Tracing System of Vietnam.
On April 1, 2021, VN Check's delegation worked with NBC (National Center for Codes and Barcodes) to propose 3 issues as follows:
1 - Discussing the development orientation of the Traceability Gate according to the Prime Minister's Decision No. 100/QD-TTg.
2 - Discussing the need for connection of the Traceability System developed by VN Check with the National Traceability Gateway.
3 - Suggest NBC have a roadmap for the cooperation deployment plan in the next time.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Chinh - Deputy Director of NBC concluded after the meeting:
1 - NBC is the hub connecting businesses and platforms with the National Traceability portal. We are willing to cooperate with organizations, businesses and individuals, including VN Check.
2 - NBC asked VN Check to clarify the technologies needed to connect to the national traceability portal to be truly transparent and serve the needs of society.
3 - NBC will have a program to work with VN Check's professional team based on research and survey results and work directly in the near future to ensure harmony relationships between the State and Enterprise and Consumers.
Thus, with the spirit of open cooperation and willingness to share resources to connect to the National TXNG portal, VN Check will have an official meeting with NBC to integrate into the system, serving partner businesses of VN Check as committed. We believe that, with a strong, smart and modern Traceability platform, it will be the basis to promote the development of the National Traceability system by 2025.
