Implementing the specialty rice project in Tan Uyen District - Lai Chau

After over 3 years of research and experimentation, VN Check has now essentially completed a set of solutions for the agricultural supply chain: from raw materials (inputs), cultivation processes (with electronic logs), processing, preservation, and distribution to consumers. Consequently, we are focusing on developing the specialty rice project in Tan Uyen District - Lai Chau Province for the period 2023 - 2025.

With the support of local authorities, starting from June 2023, we have focused on building maps of cultivation areas, cultivation logs, and collaborating with agricultural input supply units such as seedlings, fertilizers, and pesticides to control and test scientific cultivation processes. We have chosen two pure rice varieties, Co Giang glutinous rice and Séng Cù sticky rice. We have selected two suppliers of fertilizers and pesticides with nano and microbial technologies, namely NanoTech and FarmerSmart, for testing in 2023 and 2024.

Due to the mountainous terrain, Tân Uyên district faces numerous challenges, primarily due to its terraced fields, which limit mechanization in agricultural activities. We have employed local labor along with traditional farming tools familiar to the residents. For this year's summer-autumn crop, we plan to cultivate 20 hectares of Séng Cù sticky rice in Pac Ta commune, Tân Uyên district, expecting a yield of 100 tons of rice meeting VietGAP standards.

Starting from 2024, we will focus on expanding the rice farming model to 100 hectares. We commit to purchasing rice from local farmers to ensure quality, following the transparent and publicly disclosed cultivation process recorded by the electronic diary system. The projected rice yield for 2024 and 2025 is expected to increase by 10%, with a cost saving of 30-50% on fertilizers and pesticides.

To manage, operate the project, and transfer technology to local farmers, we have established the Tan Uyen High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative (THAC). We hope that this will be a key project to boost the local economy and improve the lives of farmers. In this article, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the scientists and partner organizations who have accompanied VN Check in the project.
